The AHEC Foundation

In 2024, we launched the AHEC Foundation, a nonprofit with one goal: to help technologists attain advanced modality training when and where it might not otherwise be available. Through the Foundation, we have awarded scholarships to train nine technologists to become mammographers across three different states, with more opportunities planned for 2026.

Initial Training Programs

In 2025, we expanded our initial training offerings beyond ultrasound, mammography, and DXA. We now offer forty-hour, corporate-style initial training courses and sixteen-hour certification reviews in CT, MRI, Mammography, and Interventional Radiology.

These courses are offered live at our training center, via live online seminar, and can also be brought directly to your health system. Our goal is to help bridge the training gap, positively impact patient care, and improve access in areas where such education is not currently available to technologists. To help manage costs, we also offer payment plans.

It all started with our MQSA 40-Hour Mammography Initial Training class. When you are searching for the best value in mammography training, the AHEC program is hard to beat. Why? First and foremost, no two technologists’ journeys are the same, and AHEC offers options designed to support yours.

How can you attend training with AHEC? 

• Do you prefer being in the classroom with the instructor so you can ask questions in real time? Our Live, In-Person option is for you. This course is offered at our Houston training center four times a year.
• Do you have family obligations or concerns about travel costs? Our Live Online Seminar or Webinar option allows you to attend the lecture live, ask questions, and engage with the instructor just as if you were at the center.
• Cannot wait for the next scheduled training, or are you more of a self-paced learner? Our On-Demand, Self-Paced option allows you to meet MQSA training requirements at your own pace and from the comfort of your home.
• For facilities and organizations, our instructors can bring the training directly to your location for your staff.

What about the required twenty-five initial exams?

• AHEC’s Mammography Option 1 allows you to return to your facility to complete the required twenty-five initial exams.
• AHEC’s Mammography Option 2 allows you to complete your qualifying exams at one of our partner training sites while working with expert mammographers.

What about the required Digital Mammography and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis?

Unlike many other programs, Digital Mammography and Digital Breast Tomosynthesis training are included in AHEC’s forty-hour initial training program. There are no additional charges for these training days when you enroll in either Option 1 or Option 2.

What about other or extra charges for mammography training?

At Advanced Health Education Center, we are technologists too. We do not believe in adding unnecessary fees. There are no:

• Membership fees
• Fees for course books or materials. Every participant receives our training book for note-taking and future reference at no additional cost.
• Fees for hands-on positioning. This is included for those attending training in Houston.
• Fees for Digital Mammography or DBT training.
