A Recap of AHEC 2023

Looking back on 2023, it has been an exciting year!  We celebrated AHEC’s 35th anniversary, along with the 35th anniversary of our President and Managing Partner Marilyn Sackett, the 30th anniversary of our Director of Business Operations Larry Carney, and the 26th anniversary of our COO Peggy Hoosier!

We were honored with an award and an article in the Healthcare Business Review Magazine, recognizing us as one of the country’s Top Ten Health Education Providers. Additionally, we received two Citybeat News Spectrum Awards, acknowledging both our education services and our staffing division, MEDRelief Staffing, for Outstanding Service. Our team also presented the National Radiologic Technology Week webinar for ICE Magazine, and Jence Garza, our CEO, served as a panelist at the Joint Commission’s Annual Advisory Council Joint Meeting.

We cherished the opportunity to meet with our customers throughout 2023! Our team members, Kelli Reddix, Jence Garza, Peggy Hoosier, Marilyn Sackett, Larry Carney, Kay Kegley, Billie Moore, Jaye Reddix, and Nanette Joiner, attended meetings for organizations including AHRA: The Association of Medical Imaging Management, AEIRS: Association of Educators in Imaging & Radiologic Sciences, ASRT: American Society of Radiologic Technologists, ICE: Advanced Imaging Professionals, ACEP: American College of Emergency Physicians, CRCPD: Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, and TRHA: Texas Rural Health Association. We also participated in state and local society meetings in Texas, California, Tennessee, and Georgia. Recently, we sent a delegation to Chicago for the annual RSNA: Radiological Society of North America to explore the newest advancements in the field.

Speaking of podcasts, we were also invited as guests on the popular podcast, Skeleton Crew: The Rad Tech Show with host Jen Callahan RT(R).  She and Jence discussed how education and staffing go hand in hand, how AHEC offers many accessible education options to meet technologists’ needs, Joint Commission certifications for staffing companies, and the future of healthcare education and staffing.

As 2023 came to the 4th quarter, we celebrated our wonderful customers!  We had 35 days of AHEC in honor of our 35th Anniversary during which we offered free webinars as we recognized National Radiologic Technology Week in November, and December brought 12 more days of surprises with our Holiday Advent Calendar!  We know we have the most amazing customer base and appreciate each of you so much! Giving back is our way of saying “Thank you!” for your continued support. During our Holiday Advent Calendar, we were able to create and donate 15 hospital kits to a women’s shelter.

October also brought the award of our first GROW scholarship for mammography training!  This scholarship fully sponsors two radiologic technologists in their pursuit to become qualified mammographers, with the MQSA initial training here at AHEC.  We are excited to be able to offer two more technologists this scholarship opportunity for our April 2024 training.  Applications are currently open, visit the GROW! Scholarship website for more information.

2023 was remarkable, and we look forward to continuing our commitment to continuing education and the radiology community. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we here at AHEC wish you a happy and successful 2024!
